Monterey, California - Fisherman’s Wharf
Monterey
Monterey, California has been home for me several times in my life. There are few, if any, places in the world that I find more special, unique and beautiful than Monterey and the surrounding area. Monterey itself is a very special city or town, but it also is a gateway to accessing a plethora of beautiful parks, natural scenery, marine wildlife, and much more. One could write an entire book about the essence, history and wonder of Monterey and the surrounding area.
One of my favorite things to do while in Monterey is to bike up and down the coast, all the while taking in all the beautiful scenes of rocky, sandy shores, and endless ocean views. I’ll ride by countless seemingly ancient Monterey Cypresses, and will stop occasionally to appreciate the area’s Harbor Seals, Sea Lions or Sea Otters in their natural habitat. Brown Pelicans, Seagulls, and other birds are always present as well. There is a bike path that extends for miles in both directions, making it a very bike-friendly area.

The further North one travels from Monterey, the sandier the beaches become. The further South one goes, towards Carmel and Big Sur, the more rocky and scenic the coastline becomes.
